Carolyn Mulholland - Birth Trauma Resolution Therapy Counselling in Sylvan Lake

Carolyn Mulholland

Founder of Tides Counselling, Counselling Therapist (CT), REGISTERED marriage & family therapist (RMFT), Birth Trauma Resolution (BTR) Practitioner & Former Registered Nurse & Midwife (UK)
Are you experiencing distressing memories, images, thoughts, and perceptions of your traumatic experience? Maybe you are encountering nightmares and flashbacks and reliving the events as if they were still happening, increasing irritability, difficulty sleeping, hyper-vigilance, exaggerated startle responses, and detachment from those around you. Your experience may have triggered your inner alarm system keeping you in a place where you think you can’t escape your feelings and feel out of control.

Tides Counselling has been birthed due to some of my passions melding over years of specialized experience. As a former midwife and nurse in Belfast, I have brought my dedication as a midwife with my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy to assist individuals, couples, and families who are struggling specifically with perinatal trauma. My love of the ocean and its healing waves gives each of us the hope of changing tides.

I want to offer you the opportunity to find rest and peace, through my work with individuals, couples, and families exposed to a traumatic event. If you have experienced these symptoms and would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me to schedule an assessment. I look forward to connecting with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is perinatal trauma?

Perinatal trauma is any trauma experienced during your reproductive experience – from infertility, to miscarriage, stillbirth, negative birth experiences, even if deemed a “normal birth.”

Can a family be helped if only one individual attends counselling?

I believe change begins within individuals before causing a ripple effect within the family system. We cannot change anyone else, just ourselves. Change starts with us!

What should I expect while attending counselling?

Counselling is challenging but very rewarding when individuals engage and walk through the process, noticing what they are experiencing. We can’t change what we don’t know!
