I am currently a practicum student committed to supporting individuals on their journey to better mental health and personal growth. I am passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges and discover their strengths.  My goal is to provide an empathetic, non-judgmental space where clients feel safe, heard, and understood. In my approach to counselling, I am interested in using a person-centred perspective, with techniques including solution focused strategies. I believe that working collaboratively with individuals helps to develop the skills necessary for growth and empowerment.
Throughout my practicum, I am gaining hands-on experience and continuously developing my skills under supervision and guidance. This is enabling me to expand my knowledge in order to support individuals through areas such as life transitions and mental health struggles. I am dedicated to ongoing learning and personal growth as a future counsellor.
I look forward to being a part of your journey, offering support as you work toward healing!

I’m a student therapist passionate about helping individuals uncover their strengths and wisdom through a supportive, empowering approach. By focusing on what’s already within you, my goal is to help you feel confident and capable in overcoming challenges. I use a blend of person-centered and solution-focused approaches, ensuring that your needs and goals are at the forefront of our work together. I’m also deeply interested in Emotion-Focused Therapy, which helps people connect with and understand their emotions meaningfully.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a teacher, which fueled my passion for working with children and families. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to build strong, supportive relationships to help children thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. This experience has influenced my therapy approach, especially in fostering emotional development, communication, and connection. While I have a special place in my heart for children and families, I enjoy connecting with individuals of all ages and life stages.

Growing up in a small town, I learned early on the value of community. Throughout my life, I’ve found that strong relationships are essential for navigating both the highs and lows. This belief extends to my work as a therapist, where I view the therapeutic relationship as the foundation of therapy. I strive to create authentic, genuine connections that foster a safe, trusting environment for clients to open up and grow.

These experiences shape my therapeutic style, and I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey of growth and healing!

My focus is to create an empathetic, compassionate, non-judgmental and safe environment for you to just be you.

I enjoy seeing clients of all ages, men, women, youth and children. I offer counselling for anxiety, depression, trauma, addictions, self-esteem/identity/acceptance, and relationship issues. Registered Psychologist | Therapeutic Play Practitioner

Meet Bethany! I am a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists and a certified Therapeutic Play Practitioner with the Rocky Mountain Play Institute. I specialize in supporting children and families navigating anxiety, depression, family transitions (including high-conflict divorce and separation), domestic violence, grief, and developmental trauma.

As Gary Landreth beautifully stated, “Toys are children’s words and play is their language.” This philosophy is central to my approach in creating a safe, child-centered therapeutic environment.

In addition to therapeutic services, I am trained and experienced in working with individuals—children, adolescents, and adults—who have experienced domestic abuse and relational trauma. I have worked as a domestic violence therapist in Central Alberta and understand the ongoing need in our communities for accessible, compassionate mental health care.

At Tides Center, I also offer comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for individuals aged six and older, including college and university students. These assessments help identify learning disabilities, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental concerns, providing clients and families with meaningful insights and practical recommendations to support success in both academic and everyday life.

Above all, I strive to create a welcoming and supportive space where clients and their families feel seen, heard, and empowered in their healing journey.

Frequently AskedQuestions

What is perinatal trauma?

Perinatal trauma is any trauma experienced during your reproductive experience – from infertility, to miscarriage, stillbirth, negative birth experiences, even if deemed a “normal birth.”

Can a family be helped if only one individual attends counselling?

I believe change begins within individuals before causing a ripple effect within the family system. We cannot change anyone else, just ourselves. Change starts with us!

What should I expect while attending counselling?

Counselling is challenging but very rewarding when individuals engage and walk through the process, noticing what they are experiencing. We can’t change what we don’t know!
