I am an intern therapist and registered Social Worker with the College of Alberta Social Workers, passionate about providing professional and reliable support to individuals and families navigating life’s challenges. I take a person-centered, holistic approach, ensuring clients feel heard, empowered, and supported in achieving their goals.

I incorporate Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and Attachment-Based Therapy to build relationships, encourage emotional expression, and help clients re-frame their stories while developing coping skills. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family transitions, and substance use. I have completed Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training through the University of Calgary and am authorized by the Alberta College of Social Workers to perform restricted Psychosocial Interventions.

I am excited to be completing my practicum with Tides Centre, further refining my skills and deepening my experience as a lifelong learner.

I’m a student therapist passionate about helping individuals uncover their strengths and wisdom through a supportive, empowering approach. By focusing on what’s already within you, my goal is to help you feel confident and capable in overcoming challenges. I use a blend of person-centered and solution-focused approaches, ensuring that your needs and goals are at the forefront of our work together. I’m also deeply interested in Emotion-Focused Therapy, which helps people connect with and understand their emotions meaningfully.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a teacher, which fueled my passion for working with children and families. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to build strong, supportive relationships to help children thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. This experience has influenced my therapy approach, especially in fostering emotional development, communication, and connection. While I have a special place in my heart for children and families, I enjoy connecting with individuals of all ages and life stages.

Growing up in a small town, I learned early on the value of community. Throughout my life, I’ve found that strong relationships are essential for navigating both the highs and lows. This belief extends to my work as a therapist, where I view the therapeutic relationship as the foundation of therapy. I strive to create authentic, genuine connections that foster a safe, trusting environment for clients to open up and grow.

These experiences shape my therapeutic style, and I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered. I look forward to walking alongside you on your journey of growth and healing!

BA Psych (Honours), MC, Counselling Therapist

Meet Braelyn! Hi, I am glad you’re here! Being part of your healing journey would be an honour. I believe each person is inherently valuable and deserves support, wherever they are in life. Relatedly, I hope to create a space where you can be authentically yourself without feeling judged and work toward a fulfilling future that centers on your perspectives, needs, and strengths.

How will we get there? I work from a holistic perspective, meaning I believe many parts of you – mind, body, emotions, spirit, relationships, and culture – influence your experiences in life and our work. We can explore the parts that feel most important to you, but I may also encourage you to expand your focus to other areas. I primarily use narrative, solution-focused, and mindfulness therapeutic approaches. Maybe there will be a few laughs along the way, too! I am passionate about creating a transparent and personable approach to therapy that fits you, so I will consistently check in on how we are working together.

I understand the upfront cost for therapy can be a barrier to accessing care, so I offer direct billing for various insurance providers.

I would love to get to know you and how we can work together; whether that is one session to work through a primary concern, more lengthy support, or something in-between!

Areas of Interest:

  • Identity and self-concept
  • Body-image
  • Life transitions
  • Career exploration or transitions
  • Relationships
  • Boundaries
  • Anxiety
  • Coping skills and emotional management
  • Personal or loved one’s involvement in the justice system

I specialize in supporting children and families navigating anxiety, depression, family transitions (including high-conflict divorce and separation), domestic violence, grief, and developmental trauma.

As Gary Landreth beautifully stated, “Toys are children’s words and play is their language.” This philosophy is central to my approach in creating a safe, child-centered therapeutic environment.

In addition to therapeutic services, I am trained and experienced in working with individuals—children, adolescents, and adults—who have experienced domestic abuse and relational trauma. I have worked as a domestic violence therapist in Central Alberta and understand the ongoing need in our communities for accessible, compassionate mental health care.

At Tides Center, I also offer comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for individuals aged six and older, including college and university students. These assessments help identify learning disabilities, ADHD, and other neurodevelopmental concerns, providing clients and families with meaningful insights and practical recommendations to support success in both academic and everyday life.

Above all, I strive to create a welcoming and supportive space where clients and their families feel seen, heard, and empowered in their healing journey.
